history

1992-2000

When musicians were being sought for a musical production in the Frankfurt am Main area in autumn 1992, Markos (guitar), Roosta (vocals), John (drums & percussion) and Stefan (bass) met each other for the first time in this combination. In the spring of 1993 the four, who had already been in contact with each other through different band projects, decided to start a project together independently of the rest of the musical band, which was initially vaguely defined as psychedelic reggae . - The Cashma Hoody idea was born.

While the first songs of this time were to be classified as very melancholic, the band, influenced by their first festivals together, quickly developed their very own, casual, happy and rousing style. While Cashma Hoody always return to a partly relaxed, partly driving reggae rhythm as the basic structure in their music, they seem to be able to playfully incorporate numerous other musical styles into their arrangements.

In order to be able to further exhaust their musical range, the band expanded at the end of the year for the first time with Niels on keyboard. Motivated by the predominantly positive live feedback over the next year, their first studio CD was created in October 1994 with Cashmahoody . Songs like Mother of Creation , Hoody or The Sun reflect the broad musical spectrum of Cashma Hoody for the first time on a sound carrier. Numerous appearances, a steadily growing fan base, single releases on various compilations and many new songs follow, so that the second album, Pachuamama, is tackled in spring 1996. In addition to an increasing ethnic influence ( Mama Earth , Ali Baba , ...), Oli also appears here for the first time as a guest musician, who initially joined the band a short time later.

After the following release tour, the first major line-up at Cashma Hoody followed.

John, who over time has taken on more and more vocal parts, left the band in the spring of 1997 for an initially indefinite period of time in order to further develop himself musically on a longer trip to South America and India.

With Sebastian on drums and Oli on vocals and percussion, the hoodies start into a new era, which was initially a bit rockier and more spacey than before. This can also be heard on their third CD Outernational , which was released in spring 1998 on the sold out Batschkapp in Frankfurt . This CD also contains a CD-ROM track for the first Cashma Hoody Video Guided .

After a very successful release tour, with Oli's study-related change and Roosta's departure in favor of increasing his own studio activities, a new line-up for Cashma Hoody is on the band's agenda.

With John, who joined the band again in the middle of the year after his journey, initially on percussion and vocals, as the frontman, Niels now on the percussions, so that he can often act as the second frontman, and Carsten, the new keyboardist and background singer, Cashma Hoody formed their line-up at the time.

2000-2007

In 2000, Cashma Hoody finally got their first record deal. After selling more than 5000 CDs and more than 350 concerts at home and abroad, the band released the new studio album … And the Light Within in April 2000 in collaboration with the African Dance Records label .

Cashma Hoody was very well received when they were invited to support the UB40 Germany tour in autumn 2001 .

In 2002, Cashma's fifth album, "hoodylicious", was released. The English dub greats Alpha & Omega and Zion Train as well as the reggae artist Jah Meek give guest appearances on this album. After Markos had to withdraw increasingly from music due to lack of time, a replacement was quickly found in Lars, who had previously played with John in the band "Tightrope".

On the occasion of their 10th anniversary and after more than 500 concerts at home and abroad, Cashma Hoody decided to record a live album in spring 2003 , and in May 2004 Cashma Hoody released their sixth album "Come Unity".

In September 2005, Lars, who left the band for professional reasons, was replaced by Steffen Gindra, who integrated very quickly and was able to bring his own musical guitar style to the upcoming studio recordings for the new album.

A year later, in May 2006, their album Hear and Now was released , on which, in addition to some remixes of well-known tracks by the band (with Culcha Candela and Mellow Mark, among others ), an interpretation of the Air classic "All I Need" can be heard.

Since 2006, Cashma Hoody have occasionally been supplemented by a trombonist (Sebastian Fruchtchel) and a trumpeter (Nils Helfrich) at their performances.

In the winter of 2006/2007 the planning of a remix silver disc began. With Soundpool , which was released in summer 2007, Cashma Hoody show their relaxed side. On the album you can hear hoody classics that have been provided with elements from electronics and reggae to dub, latin and dancehall beats by friends of musicians and producers such as Gabriel Le Mar, Lacantina and Afrit (Eastenders).

2008-2015

For the production of the EP Weiter in the winter of 2010/2011, Cashma Hoody were able to inspire Oliver Rüger ( Sasha , Max Mutzke ) and Clemens Matznick ( Revolverheld , Guano Apes ) for a collaboration. The release took place in summer 2011. At the end of the year, Steffen Gindra left the band. A successor was quickly found in Boris Eckert, who had often accompanied the band as sound mixer in previous years. Other open-air appearances followed, especially in the Rhine-Main area.

Cashma Hoody celebrated their 20th stage anniversary in November 2013 in Frankfurt am Main in the ZOOM (former gully ) together with Mellow Mark and former band members. On November 17, 2014, the band announced on their website that they would play their last concerts in 2015.

On October 10, 2015 the band gave their last live concert after 22 years in the Neue Stadthalle Langen in front of around 1000 spectators.

2018

On February 21, 2018, the band played a small set of 5 songs in the Neue Stadthalle Langen as part of an evening by and with Ena Roth.
