Pearl is a city in Rankin County in the US state Mississippi , which is located about five kilometers southeast of the capital Jackson and thus belongs to the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area .

At the 2010 census , Pearl had 25,092 residents. In 2014 there were already 26,388 inhabitants, of which around 70 percent are white and around 21 percent are black; Hispanics form the largest minority with a share of around five percent. Overall, Pearl recorded a population growth of 20.2% between 2000 and 2014. This makes Pearl the largest city in Rankin County's population and the twelfth largest in Mississippi.

After long negotiations that began in September 1968, Pearl was granted City status in 1973 after approval by the Mississippi Supreme Court . In previous years, the boundaries of the city and the name - in addition to "Pearl", there were also "Riverview" and "Brightsville" options - had been decided; Harris Harvey became Pearl's first mayor.

In 1983 the Rankin Campus of the Hinds Community College in Pearl was opened.

The Mississippi Braves , a minor league baseball team of the Atlanta Braves , play their home games at Trustmark Park .

Jackson-Evers International Airport is located about six kilometers northeast of Pearl .
