Eric Maurice Washington (born March 23, 1974 in Pearl , Mississippi ) is a former American basketball player who is used in the position of point guard and was most recently active for the Nuremberg BC in the second basketball division ProB .
Career
Washington began his studies at the prestigious University of Alabama in 1993 , having previously graduated from high school in his hometown of Pearl. In his college career he played a total of 112 games and was in the 1995/96 season with a total of 18.6 points per game, statistically speaking, even the most successful player in the NCAA .
After college, he signed up for the 1997 NBA draft and was drafted 47th by the Orlando Magic , who then transferred him to the Denver Nuggets. For this Washington played a total of 102 games in two years, in which he scored 6.9 points per game. The married family man then moved to Europe, where he first went basket hunting for AO Dafni from Athens in Greece and then for two years for the Baskets from Rimini in Italy . This was followed by a brief engagement with the Israeli first division club Hapoel Jerusalem, where he made three appearances in the ULEB Cup , but was then ousted by the then newly signed, now Russian national player Kelly McCarty . He then returned to the USA, where he was a total of 45 games in the CBA for the Idaho Stampede during the 2005/06 season , before moving to Finland , where he was active for the last five years. During this time Washington played for three different clubs and was always considered one of the best players in the league, which is why he was named "1st Division Player of the Year" in 2009. With his last club in Finland, the KTP Baskets Kotka, he reached the semi-finals of the play-offs .
On July 9, 2010, the Nuremberg BC announced the surprising change of Washington to the 2nd basketball division ProB. At his previous clubs he was still in the guard positions, and with a height of 1.93 m he should close the gap on the wing position ( small forward ). When there was no success, the contract was terminated early in 2011.
