Ondřej Sýkora

Ondřej Sýkora (born February 10, 1984 ) is a Czech basketball coach .

Life

As a player, Sýkora, who measures 1.90 meters, was a member of the youth department of BK Ostrau, and in 2002 he made the jump to the Czech U18 national team. In the 2003/04 season he was in the squad of the Slovak  first division club BK Zilina. 2006/07 Sýkora played for the German regional league team TV Saarlouis and was also active in the club as a youth coach, while his partner Zuzana Polonyiova also played for Saarlouis' women in the Bundesliga. Then Sýkora was employed as a trainer in youth work in Ostrava.

For the 2010/11 season Sýkora was youth coach at BK Klatovy. In the summer break of 2014 he took up the position of head coach at the German women's second division club BG 74 Göttingen , Polonyiova became both a player and co-trainer of the "Veilchen". Sýkora led Göttingen into the final series of the 2nd Bundesliga North in spring 2015, where they lost to Osnabrück. Since he demanded more professional framework conditions, which BG could not offer him, the separation occurred in May 2015.

At the beginning of November 2015 he became the new coach of the Bundesliga club NB Oberhausen and remained in office until the end of the 2015/16 season. In the summer of 2016, Sýkora took up a position as a full-time youth coach at the Herner TC  , looked after Herne's girls in the youth Bundesliga WNBL and became  assistant to the HTC-Bundesliga women under Marek Piotrowski . At the end of 2017, he moved to Saarlouis with Polonyiova and their two children , where Polonyiova had taken a job. In April 2018, Sýkora was introduced as the new head coach of the Bundesliga women of TV Saarlouis. He ended the 2018/19 season with Saarlouis as a sporting Bundesliga relegation, since Braunschweig withdrew from the league, Sýkora stayed with Saarlouis in the first division. At the end of September 2019 he was dismissed in Saarlouis for sporting reasons.
