Alba Torrens Salom (born August 30, 1989 in Binissalem , Balearic Islands ) is a Spanish basketball player . It is mostly used as a shooting guard or small forward .

career

Alba Torrens began her career as a junior in 2001 at CB Sant Josep in Palma . In March 2004 she moved to Barcelona , in the offspring of Segle XXI , where she played from the 2004/05 season in the first team, which was represented in the second division at that time. In the summer of 2006 Torrens was transferred to the first division club RC Celta Indepo from Vigo . The young Spaniard was unable to celebrate any success with her club, but she herself developed into one of the league's greatest talents. On April 9, 2009 she was selected in the WNBA Draft in 36th place by the Connecticut Sun , but decided to stay in her home country, where she moved to the top club Perfumerías Avenida . In 2009 she received the Young Women's Player Of The Year Award from FIBA Europe for the best player on the continent under the age of 22. With her club Perfumerías Avenida , she celebrated numerous successes, especially in the 2010/11 season. National she won both the Spanish Championship and the Supercup and crowned the season by winning the Euroleague Women with a 68:59 in the final against Spartak Moscow . She herself was elected MVP of the Final Four for her outstanding achievements .

In the summer of 2011, Alba Torrens decided to move to the top Turkish club Galatasaray Medical Park . She tore a cruciate ligament in January 2012 and was out for the remainder of the season. A little later, FIBA ​​Europe voted her European Player of the Year 2011 .

Alba Torrens played successfully for her country's national team from a young age. In 2004 she won the European Championship with the U-16s and was voted MVP of the tournament. In the following year she was able to successfully defend the title. In 2006 she won gold again with the Spanish U-18 and in 2007 she achieved the silver medal. At the U-20 European Championship in 2009 she won the silver medal with Spain and was also named Most Valuable Player.

Alba Torrens made her debut for the senior national team at the age of 18 in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games . There she reached 5th place with her team. She was part of the squad at both the 2009 European Championships and the 2010 World Championships and won the bronze medal. At the EM 2011 she was in the squad again, but only reached 9th place with Spain.
