The 13th WNBA Draft took place on April 9, 2009. The 13 WNBA teams had the chance to secure the rights to the most promising talents. Each team may choose one player per round.
The 2009 draft
Since the Houston Comets ceased operations on December 2, 2008, a dispersal draft took place on December 8 .
On December 9, 2008, the order of selection for a lottery was determined. They won the Atlanta Dream ahead of the Washington Mystics.
The WNBA draft itself went over three rounds. A total of 39 players were selected. The United States made up the majority with 35 players.
