Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners are the University of Oklahoma's sports division best known for its football team.

This participates in the Big 12 Conference . In 2002 Sports Illustrated named the University of Oklahoma the 3rd Best College Sports Program in America.

The Sooners have participated in college football since 1895 . The Sooners have played at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium since 1923 . So far, they have won 41 conference championships and seven national championships. OU has the highest probability of winning any team in this conference since 1936.

The Sooners have won seven national championships in football, namely 1950, 1955, 1956, 1974, 1975, 1985 and 2000. In addition, many individual players of the Oklahoma Sooners are successful. There are seven Heisman Trophy winners as well as many other award winners, including NFL MVP Award winners and members of the College Football Hall of Fame .

The official colors of the Sooners are blood red and cream. The school's logo is a form-fitting "OU" design and was first used on football helmets in 1967.

The "Fight Song" from the University of Oklahoma is called Boomer Sooner , composed by Arthur M. Alden in 1905. Other songs are called Oklahoma! , OK Oklahoma and the OU Chant.

The mascot is the Sooner Schooner , a wagon. There are also two new mascots, both creamy white ponies, named Boomer and Sooner . There's also a group called RUF / NEKS that shoots salutes at the Sooners' touchdown cheers.
