MAXIMA Latvija is a subsidiary of the Lithuanian UAB “ Maxima grupė ”, the market leader in the Latvian retail sector since 2011 and the largest employer in Latvia . The 141 MAXIMA supermarkets are visited by 287,000 customers every day.

history

In 2007 the chain had a total of 121 supermarkets and employed 6,439 people. In 2011/2012 MAXIMA overtook Rimi Lietuva and became the market leader (in 2012 Romo achieved a turnover of 443.326 million lats and a profit of 8.95 million lats). In 2012 the company achieved a turnover of 2.187 billion litas (excluding VAT). Seven new supermarkets will open in 2013. In 2013, the company entered the national tax office's “black” list of debtors with a debt of LVL 3566.33 (EUR 4000).

Accident in Riga-Zolitūde on November 21, 2013

On the evening of November 21, 2013, around 6 p.m. local time, the roof structure of the Maxima XX supermarket collapsed in the Zolitūde district of Riga . At least 54 people were killed in the accident. After commenting on the accident and the resignation of Prime Minister Dombrovskis, the company's managing director was dismissed on November 28, 2013.
