Romy Bär (born May 17, 1987 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German basketball player .

Life

The 1.87 meter tall player, who was mainly used as a power forward , started playing basketball with the Basketgirls in Chemnitz and won the German championship in 2002 with the U16 Basketgirls in Berlin . In the final, she was the most successful scorer in the 76-72 win against Nördlingen with 24 points.

Career

At the age of 15 she played in the Chemnitz ranks in the 2nd women's basketball league and rose to the 1st women's basketball league with the Chemcats Chemnitz in 2006 . For the 2007/2008 season, Bär moved to league competitor TV 1872 Saarlouis and became cup winners and runner-up with the Saarland women. In the 2008/2009 season, she held the position of captain and again won the cup and the German championship. For her performance during the season, she was honored as the league's player of the year at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. Also in the 2009/10 season she was able to repeat the cup win and the championship with the Saarlouis Royals. After completing her studies in the summer of 2010 and winning five titles in three years with the Royals, Bär moved to Challes-les-Eaux in France. For the 2014/2015 season, she moved with national team colleague Katharina Fikiel to Slovakia to the first division club Good Angels Košice .

After a season in Slovakia, she moved back to France and was signed by the first division club Cavigal Nice Basket 06 in August 2015. She stayed there for two years and moved to Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration Basket within the French league for the 2017/18 season and also competed with the club in the Euroleague. Bär went to Brisbane, Australia , where he played for the Southern District Spartans in the Queensland Basketball League (QBL) in the 2018 summer season and won the championship. In the 2018/19 season she played at Villeneuve D'Asq ESB Lille Metropole in France.

In the summer of 2020 she moved back to Germany and accepted an offer from the second division club RheinLand Lions .

National team

Romy Bär went through all youth national teams and was appointed to the senior national team in 2008. In the preparatory game for the additional qualifying round for the European Championship, she played her first international match against Belgium. In her first league game she was by far the most successful German thrower on January 7th, 2009 in Kiev in the 47:73 defeat against Ukraine with 21 points.
