Katharina Fikiel (born July 30, 1987 in Krakow ) is a 1.95 meter tall German national basketball player . She plays in the center position.

Childhood and family

Katharina Fikiel grew up in a basketball-loving family. Her 2.06 m tall father Krzysztof Fikiel made 203 appearances for the Polish national team and was an Olympic participant in Moscow in 1980 . Her brother Jan was also a professional basketball player. As a child and adolescent, she first played in Oberelchingen and Ulm and attended the sports boarding school in Heidelberg from the ninth grade .

Professional career

Katharina followed in the footsteps of her father and older brother and embarked on a professional career. In 2002 she signed with USC Freiburg and played for BG Göttingen in the 2004/2005 season . In 2005 she moved to her native Poland and became Polish champion in 2006 with Wisła Can-Pack Krakow .

She spent the 2007/2008 season in Belgium with the first division club Houthalen . The player, who likes to change, had a short second division in the Italian Broni , in order to play first class again in France at Toulouse Metropole Basket in 2009 . In 2010 she returned to Italy , but this time to the top division and joined Lavezzini Parma . The next station was Wolfenbüttel in 2011 , where she won the German championship title with the BV Wolfenbüttel Wildcats in 2012 . In 2013 she achieved the same feat with TSV 1880 Wasserburg . For the 2013/2014 season, Katharina Fikiel moved to Halle to the SV Halle Lions. From September 2014 to December 2014 she strengthened the squad of the Slovak first division club Good Angels Košice . In the six games in the Euroleague for Good Angels Kosice Fikiel got very little time. In January 2015, she moved to Energa Toruń , the country of her birth, Poland , who was second in the table in the first Polish league at the time, and achieved third place with the team.

During the summer break of 2016, Fikiel, who is completing a distance learning course in business administration , returned to Wasserburg. In the 2017/18 season she was initially in the service of the Bundesliga club Grüner Stern Keltern before moving to Klub Sportowy JAS-FBG Sosnowiec in Poland at the end of November 2017. In July 2018 she was signed by ASZ AJP Gorzów Wielkopolski (also the first Polish league).

During the game-free time, Fikiel is regularly involved as a guest at Hoop-Camps e. V., a provider of training camps.

National team

The 1.95 tall center woman was appointed to the German U16 and U18 teams . She played her first international match on Jul 15, 2010, and so far (as of August 2017) 53 other appearances in the senior national team have followed.
