Jan Fikiel

Jan Fikiel (born January 18,  1983 in Krakow ) is a former German basketball player .

career

The son of the former Polish national player Krzysztof Fikiel and brother of Katharina Fikiel was born in Krakow and grew up in Germany  , where his father played in the Bundesliga. Fikiel was active in the youth of SV Oberelchingen , when the 2.08-meter-tall winger moved to the Westminister Academy (state of Florida ) in the United States in 1999 . He began studying at the University of Pennsylvania in 2001 and was a member of the college's basketball team until 2005. He achieved his best statistical values ​​in his final season 2004/05 with 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds on average.

In 2005 Fikiel went back to Germany and was signed by the second division club FC Schalke 04 , for whom he had a strong year, averaging 14.2 points and was named “ League Newcomer of the Year” by the basketball service eurobasket.com in the second division 2005/06 season . At the beginning of the 2006/07 game year, Fikiel was in the service of Belgian second division team Bosch Security Colfontaine, but injured his Achilles tendon during preparation, so he was missing and was not used in the league. In February 2007 he moved back to the 2nd Bundesliga and joined the Ehingen / Urspring syndicate . Fikiel played for Ehingen until the end of the 2006/07 season, during the 2007 summer break he moved to the Bremen Roosters ( 2nd Bundesliga ProA ). He stayed with the Hanseatic League for two years.

In the summer of 2007 he first moved to SC Rasta Vechta and then to the Oldenburg TB (regional league) before the 2007/08 season opener . In the 2010/11 season, Fikiel strengthened BV Villingen-Schwenningen in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . After the end of his competitive sports career, Fikiel, who worked for customs, played for amateur clubs in the greater Bremen area.

National team

Fikiel took part in several elimination rounds for European championship tournaments with the German junior national teams, in 2005 he was appointed to the squad of the A2 national team.
