The SG Bergische Löwen ( called RheinLand Lions since 2020 ) are a German women's basketball team of the 2nd DBBL . The SG is a syndicate consisting of the three clubs TV Bensberg , TV Herkenrath (both Bergisch Gladbach ) and TV Hoffnungsthal ( Rösrath ) in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis . Since the 2015/16 season they have been playing under this name in the second women's basketball league North.
history
The first two seasons they played in the lower third of the table and were able to prevent relegation. Since the 2017/18 season, attempts have been made to advance to the first basketball league with a reinforced squad. In the first season the promotion could be secured against Recklinghausen in a direct duel. Since the 19/20 season the team has been playing with the RheinStars Cologne and performing under the name MSP Bergische Löwen hosted by RheinStars Cologne, with half of the games being played in Herkenrath and the other half in the ASV Halle in Cologne.
At the end of June 2020 the die Löwen was renamed RheinLand Lions. Before that, the operating company TRB Team Rheinland Betriebs UG, founded in the same month, took over gaming operations.
