Tobu is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the northwest of the administrative district of South Central Timor (Timor Tengah Selatan) of the East Nusa Tenggara Province (Nusa Tenggara Timur) . In the west lies the Fatumnasi district , in the south North Mollo (Mollo Utara) and in the east Poland . In the north Tobu borders the Region of North Central Timor (Timor Tengah Utara) with its districts Westmiomaffo (Miomaffo Barat) and Mutis .

Tobu has an area of ​​98.88 km² and is divided into the eight Desa Tobu , Tutem , Tune , Bonleu , Huetalan , Pubasu , Bestobe and Saubalan . The Desas are again divided into 19 Dusun (sub-villages). The administrative headquarters are in Tobu . In the north of Tobu is the mountain Mutis , which at 2,417  m is the highest mountain in West Timor and the entire province. The villages are between 832  m (Huetalan) and 1286  m (Bonleu). As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season .

Residents

In 2017, Tobu had 9,960 inhabitants in 2,310 households. 4,780 were men and 5,180 women. The population density was 101 people per square kilometer. A minority of the population professes the Catholic faith, but the majority are Protestants. There are six Catholic and 19 Protestant churches and chapels in the district.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (5,919), horses (32), buffalo (one), pigs (4,488), goats (50) and chickens (83,945) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 1,036 hectares, rice on 308 hectares, cassava on 160 hectares and sweet potatoes on 395 hectares. Other agricultural products include garlic, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, aubergines, avocados, mangoes, tangerines, papayas and bananas.

There are 14 elementary schools, four middle schools and two secondary schools in Tobu. A municipal health center ( Puskesmas ) and three medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ) are available for medical care . Doctors stationed in the district are missing. Medical care is provided by 15 midwives, seven nurses and one other member of the medical staff.
