Kolbano is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the south of the administrative district of South Central Timor (Timor Tengah Selatan) in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) on the coast of the Timor Sea . The sea is in the southeast of the district. In the southwest is the Kualin district , in the west Kuan Fatu , in the north Central Amanuban (Amanuban Tengah) and Kie and in the east Kot'olin .

Kolbano has an area of ​​108.70 km² and is divided into the twelve Desa Kolbano , Noesiu , Südpene (Pene Selatan) , Oetuke , Babuin , Oeleu , Sei , Nunuamat , Pana , Haunobenak , Ofu and Spaha . Kolbano, Noesiu, Oetuke, Nununamat and Spaha are by the sea. The Desa are again divided into a total of 37 Dusun (sub-villages). The administrative headquarters are in Kolbano. The highest village in the district is Ofu, which lies at an altitude of 909  m above sea level. As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season . Most of the rain falls in December while July through October remain dry. In 2017, 143 rainy days were recorded, which brought a total of 1,907 mm of precipitation that year.

Residents

In 2017 there were 19,406 inhabitants in Kolbano. 9543 were men, 9,863 women. The population density was 178 people per square kilometer. There are three Catholic and 38 Protestant churches and chapels and a mosque in the district.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (4,423), pigs (9,711), goats (1,931) and chickens (21,324) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 838 hectares, rice on 45 hectares and manioc on 152 hectares. Other agricultural products include onions, cabbage, beans, tomatoes, mangoes, tangerines, oranges, guavas, papayas, bananas, jackfruits and sirsak.

In Kolbano there are 23 primary schools, seven middle schools and three secondary schools. For medical care, there are two municipal health centers ( Puskesmas ) in Kolbano and Sei and five medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ). The district has a total of two doctors, 13 midwives and 16 nurses.
