Batu Putih is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the west of the administrative district of South Central Timor (Timor Tengah Selatan) of the East Nusa Tenggara Province (Nusa Tenggara Timur) . In the northwest lie the districts Westmolo (Molo Barat) and Südmolo (Molo Selatan) , in the east Westamanuban (Amanuban Barat) and in the south Südamanuban (Amanuban Selatan) . In the southwest, Batu Putih borders on the government district of Kupang with the district of Takari .

Batu Putih has an area of ​​102.33 km² and is divided into the seven Desa Oebobo , Tupan , Boenuka , Oehaela , Tuakole , Hane and Benlutu . The Desa are again divided into a total of 23 Dusun (sub-villages). The administrative headquarters are in Oebobo. While Oebobo is 103  m above sea level , Boentuka is 487  m above sea level. As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season , with Batu Putih being very dry. In 2017 it rained only 42 days between January and May. The annual rainfall was 929 millimeters.

Residents

In 2017, Batu Putih had 12,777 people in 3,128 households. 6,442 were men and 6,335 women. The population density was 124 people per square kilometer. There are twelve Catholic and 38 Protestant churches and chapels and a mosque in the district.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (4,901), pigs (5,178) and chickens (22,959) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 1,659 hectares, 318 hectares of rice, 20 hectares of cassava, four hectares of sweet potatoes, 15 hectares of peanuts and seven hectares of green beans. Other agricultural products are garlic, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, avocados, mangoes, tangerines and oranges. Papayas, bananas and sirsak.

Batu Putih has 15 elementary schools, three middle schools and two secondary schools. A community health center ( Puskesmas ) and six medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ) are available for medical care . There are two doctors, 17 midwives and 14 nurses in the district.
