South Amanatun ( Indonesian Amanatun Selatan ) is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the southeast of the administrative district of South Central Timor (Timor Tengah Selatan) in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) . In the southwest lies the district of Kie , in the northwest Fautmolo , in the north Noebana , in the northeast Santian , in the east Boking and in the southeast Nunkolo .

South Amanatun has an area of ​​94.58 km² and is divided into the 13 Desa Oinlasi , Kokoi , Fatulunu , Nunleu , Kualeu , Fenun , Anin , Toi , Nifuleo , Sunu , Lanu , Fae and Netutnana . De Desa are again divided into a total of 46 Dusun (sub-villages). The administrative headquarters are in Oinlasi. While Fenun is at an altitude of 500  m , Kualeu is at an altitude of 1089  m above sea level. As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season . September has the least amount of rain, while May is the wettest month. In 2017 a total of 100 rainy days were counted and a total amount of precipitation over the year of 1,932 millimeters was registered.

Residents

In 2017, 18,481 people lived in South Amanatun. 8,730 were men, 9,751 women. The population density was 224 people per square kilometer. There are eleven Catholic and 37 Protestant churches in the district, chapels and a mosque in Oinlasi.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (SAPI), horses (KUDA), buffalo (KERBAU), pigs (BABI), goats (KAMBING) and chickens (AYAM) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 3,692 hectares, cassava on 117 hectares, sweet potatoes on 79 hectares, peanuts on 23 hectares, soybeans on five hectares and mung beans on 54 hectares. Rice is not cultivated in the district. Other agricultural products include onions, potatoes, Indian mustard, carrots, beans, avocados, mangoes, tangerines, oranges, papayas, bananas and breadfruits. Coconuts, coffee, pecans, kapok, areca nuts and betel nuts come from plantations.

South Amanatun has 22 elementary schools, eight middle schools and three secondary schools. A municipal health center ( Puskesmas ) in Anin and two medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ), one each in Nunleu and one in Sunu, are available for medical care . A doctor, eight midwives and four nurses work in the district.

There is a daily market in Oinlasi and a weekly market in Fenun.
