Santian is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the east of the administrative district of South Central Timor (Timor Tengah Selatan) in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) . In the southwest is the district of South Amanatun (Amanatun Selatan) , in the west Noebana , in the north North Amanatun (Amanatun Utara) , in the east Toiana and in the south Boking .

Santian has an area of ​​48.16 km² and is divided into the five Desa Santian , Nenotes , Poli , Manufui and Naifatu . The Desa are again divided into a total of 16 Dusun (sub-villages). The administrative headquarters are in Santian . While Manufui is 442  m above sea level , Nenotes is 743  m above sea level. As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season .

Residents

2017 lived in Santian 6,743 inhabitants. 3,172 were men and 3,571 women. The population density was 140 people per square kilometer. In the district there was a Catholic church in Santian and 19 Protestant churches and chapels.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. There are no industry or even handicraft businesses in Santian. Neither are hotels or restaurants. Cattle (2,898), pigs (4,136), goats (125) and chickens (5,538) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 760 hectares and mung beans on 37 hectares. Rice is not cultivated in the district. Other agricultural products are mangoes, papayas and bananas. Coconuts, pecans, kapok, cashews, areca nuts, coffee, cocoa, tobacco and betel nuts come from plantations.

There are ten elementary schools, four middle schools and two secondary schools in Santian. Two communal health centers ( Puskesmas ) and a medical care center ( Puskesmas Pembantu ) are available for medical care . There are five midwives and six nurses in the district. Doctors are missing.

48 retailers operate in Santian. There are weekly markets in Santian, Poli and Manufui.
