Nunkolo is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the XXX of the administrative district of South Central Timor (Timor Tengah Selatan) in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) on the coast of the Timor Sea . The sea is in the south of the district. In the southwest lies the Kot'olin district , in the west the districts Kie and South Amanatun (Amanatun Selatan) and in the northeast, finally, the district Boking .

Nunkolo has an area of ​​69.09 km² and is divided into the nine Desa Op , Saenam , Sahan , Nenoat , Nunkolo , Hoineno , Fat , Putan and Haumeni . The Desa are again divided into a total of 29 Dusun (sub-villages). The administrative headquarters are in Desa Nunkolo. The Desa Op, Saenam, Sahan, Nenoat, Nunkolo and Hoineno have access to the sea. While the village of Nunkolo is only 131  m above sea level , Haumeni is at an altitude of 1025  m above sea level. As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season . The driest month is September, the most rain falls in May. In 2016, 100 rainy days were recorded with a total rainfall of 1,932 millimeters.

Residents

In 2017 there were 14,671 inhabitants in Nunkolo. 6,922 were men and 7,749 women. The population density was 212 people per square kilometer. There are seven Catholic and 44 Protestant churches and chapels in the district.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (3,554), pigs (1,472), goats (124) and chickens (1,037) are kept as pets. Maize is grown on 2,859 hectares, six hectares of rice, 830 hectares of cassava, ten hectares of sweet potatoes, six hectares of peanuts, 20 hectares of soybeans and 35 hectares of mung beans. Other agricultural products include potatoes, cabbage, Indian mustard, carrots, beans, pumpkins, leafy vegetables, avocados, mangoes, tangerines, oranges, papayas and bananas.

There are 14 primary schools, two middle schools and one secondary school in Nunkolo. A community health center ( Puskesmas ) in Nunkolo and two medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ) are available for medical care .
