The Mutis ( Gunung Mutis , Nuaf Mutis , Nuaf Nefomasi ) is the highest mountain in West Timor and the province of East Nusa Tenggara . It is 2417  m high. It is located in the Tobu district of the South Central Timor ( Timor Tengah Utara ), south of the East Timorese exclave Oe-Cusse Ambeno .

The summit can be reached in two and a half to four hours from the artificial lake near the village of Fatumnasi ( Fatumasi , Fatumenasi ) ( 1600  m ). The eight kilometer long path is not marked, which is why you need a guide to climb it.

The area is forested and crossed by a few small rivers. The 10,000 hectare area is a wildlife sanctuary where numerous bird species live. Within the reserve are the villages of Nuapi and Nenas , and a dozen other villages are located around the reserve. Nine of the villages belong to south- central Timor, the others to the administrative region of north-central Timor . A total of around 25,000 people live in the 14 villages. They speak Mollo-miomafo , a dialect of Uab Meto that is spoken in much of West Timor. The residents consider the Mutis to be their sacred origin.

According to a local legend, the island of Pulau Batek came from here.
