2. DBBL North Women 2019/20: 7th place |
The Bender Baskets Grünberg are the first women's basketball team of the gymnastics and sports club from 1883 from Grünberg in Central Hesse . The basketball department was set up in the club in 1973.
General
The Bender-Baskets see themselves as a training team. Young players are introduced to the Bundesliga level at TSV Grünberg and in cooperation with BC Marburg in the WNBL in cooperation with the basketball part-time boarding school Grünberg at the Bender Baskets. After graduating from high school, many players leave the club and switch to higher-class clubs. Examples are Alexandra Keil , Isabell Meinhart , Finja Schaake , Julia Gaudermann , Elisabeth Dzirma , Nicola Happel and Aline Stiller . Foreign players are avoided as far as possible. Exceptions were the 2012 and 2015/2016 seasons, when two American professional players, Amelia Simmons and Maria Blazejewski , had to be signed.
The promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was celebrated for the first time in the 1999/2000 season. After the voluntary withdrawal, the women have been a permanent part of the second highest class since the 2008/09 season and have been playing under the name Bender Baskets Grünberg since that season.
