The Theo Koch School Grünberg ( TKS for short ) is an integrated comprehensive school with upper secondary school and all-day courses in Grünberg (Hesse) in the district of Gießen .
The school was mentioned for the first time in 1806 and was founded as an expanded elementary school out of the Latin and City School. It is named after the ethnologist Theodor Koch-Grünberg (1872–1924), an important Brazilian researcher who came from Grünberg.
history
In 1956, the Theo Koch School on Schulstrasse (today the “Grundschule am Diebsturm ”) got its name as a grammar school . In 1962 the Central School Association was founded with the intention of building a central school. For the construction of the school, which is called the “forest school” by the people of Grünberg, some spruce trees had to give way so that an area of 37,000 m² could be made available.
With the headmaster Amadori, the new central school in Struppiusstraße outside the city of Grünberg finally started operations in December 1966. With a catchment area of a total of 18 communities, around 900 pupils attended the new secondary and secondary school in the year of inauguration.
In 1970 the central school was merged with the grammar school to form an integrated comprehensive school . Robert Maushagen was given the task of running the school in 1971. With the inauguration of an extension in 1973, the new comprehensive school was named “Theo Koch School”.
Since the school year 2005/2006 there are, in addition to grades 5 to 8 of the integrated comprehensive school, graduation-related classes in grades 9 and 10. B. in NaWi (natural science) or language classes, which offer additional lessons in the respective focal points and thus offer the students a special qualification.
Two new buildings were inaugurated in 2017. A new auditorium, which is equipped with the latest stage technology, and the "House G", in which all-day classes are accommodated.
