The ASC 1846 Göttingen ( General Sport Club Göttingen von 1846 eV ) is the largest sports club in Göttingen and one of the largest sports clubs in Germany with over 11,000 members . The association offers a wide range of disciplines and is involved in leisure, popular, children's and senior sports. In the 1980s, the club gained national fame through its success in basketball .

The association was formed in 1980 from the merger of TG 1846 Göttingen with the SSC Göttingen . The SSC Göttingen in turn was founded in 1969 as a merger of the SSV Hellas Göttingen with most of the members of the Göttingen 08 swimming club . On January 1, 2008, the Göttingen judo club also joined the association.

Men's team

ASC Göttingen and its predecessor clubs SSV Hellas Göttingen and SSC Göttingen played in the basketball league in 1966/67, 1970/71, from 1973 to 1975 and from 1976 to 1988 . The team was three times German champions and twice DBB Cup winners . The 1st men's team of ASC Göttingen plays in the 1st Regionalliga Nord. The venue is the sports hall of the Georg-Christoph-Lichtenberg Comprehensive School ; The main training facility is the sports hall of the Hainberg Gymnasium , where most of the other league games are also played.

Youth work

The club provides teams in all age groups. With Yasin Kolo , a player from the ASC Göttingen made the leap into the youth national team.

volleyball

At ASC Göttingen there are three women's, five men's and numerous youth teams. The first men's team has been playing in the Third League West since 2013 .

Child and youth work

In addition to the diverse range of sports on offer, the ASC operates several day nurseries , day-care centers and after-school care centers with the asc-Kinderbetreuungs gGmbH . Here children are looked after with a focus on movement education.

ASC Göttingen is a recognized sponsor for the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) in sport in Lower Saxony and carries it out in cooperation with the Lower Saxony Sports Youth. Since 2008, the ASC has been implementing the weltwärts development volunteer service in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development .
