Tamara Tanisha Tatham (born August 19, 1985 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Canadian basketball player. She played for 3½ years for the SV Halle Lions and was voted the most valuable player of the DBBL season 2011/2012. With the Canadian national team , she took part in World Championships in 2010 and 2014 and in the Summer Olympics in 2012 and 2016 , and in 2015 she won the American Championship .

Career

As a player

Tatham was born in the Metropolitan Toronto belonging East York , visited in Brampton the Chinguacousy Secondary School . From 2003 to 2007 she played for the University of Massachusetts Amherst team in the NCAA . After a year in Finland with the Catz Lappeenranta , Tatham moved to the 1st DBBL in 2008 with the SV Halle Lions. With these she reached the semi-finals of the German championship, and Tatham received numerous individual awards, including being the best foreign player and the best defender in the league. The following year she reached the final series of the championship with the team of TSV 1880 Wasserburg , but where she lost to TV 1872 Saarlouis Royals. After playing briefly for the Toronto Lady Elite 1s in the North American WBCBL , she returned to Halle in late 2010. In 2012 Tatham received the awards as the most valuable player of the DBBL and again as the best import and defensive player, and again moved into the championship final series, where Halle was subject to the BV Wolfenbüttel Wildcats . She then took part in the 2012 Summer Olympics. In the quarterfinals, Canada was eliminated from the eventual gold medalist USA .

After another year with the Lions, Tatham moved to Piešťanské Čajky in Slovakia in 2013 , where she played in the Middle European League , among other things . In 2015 she won both the basketball competition at the Pan American Games and the American Championship with the Canadian national team and was appointed to the All-Tournament Team there. She was then signed by Townsville Fire , defending champion in the Australian WNBL , as a short-term replacement for Briana Butler . In late 2015, Tatham was diagnosed with a fatigue fracture of the left tibia, which is why it was out for the rest of the season. At the 2016 Summer Olympics , she reached the quarter-finals again with Canada.

As a trainer

In 2018, Tatham became assistant coach for the Raptors 905 in the NBA G-League , becoming the first Canadian in one of the major professional men's sports leagues in North America. She is also the assistant coach of the women's basketball team at the University of Toronto .

Tamara Tatham's younger sister Alisha Tatham also plays for the Canadian national basketball team. Her older brother Patrick Tatham was a junior national player and played for the German regional division SC Itzehoe Eagles , among others .
