Diana Adele Pop , née Ciupe, (born February 9, 1971 in Arad ) is a Romanian national basketball player and judoka . She also has Hungarian citizenship .

Pop learned to play basketball at the Romanian club BC Arad. In 1989 she was second in the European Championship with the youth national team of Romania and also to best build player voted the tournament. At the European Youth Championship in 1990 she was third with Romania and was able to receive the award of the best development player of the tournament. Pop also played in the women's national basketball team of Romania, and she was also the captain of the Romanian national team until 2001. With the BC Arad she won the Romanian championship several times from 1992 to 1995. Subsequently, she played first in Hungary with Zalaegerszeg , then with DKSK Miskolc and finally with BSE Budapest . In 1999 she was named Basketball Player of the Year in Romania. In 2000 she received an invitation as a new player in the WNBA . It should be drafted there.

In 2003 the player moved to Germany in the 1st DBBL for TSV 1880 Wasserburg . With this she won all German championship titles from 2004 to 2008 and also the German Cup in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and 2011 . For her achievements in the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 seasons, Pop was honored as the most valuable player in the Bundesliga.

After the baby break Diana Pop returned to the TSV 1880 Wasserburg squad and in 2010 played the eighth final series of the German championship in a row. Diana Pop was voted “Sportswoman of the Year 2010” by the readers of the Oberbayerischer Volksblatt (OVB) and users of its online portals, ahead of cross-country skier Evi Sachsenbacher-Stehle and squash player Kathrin Hauck .

Judo

Diana Pop played basketball as well as judo as a competitive sport and was Romanian champion from 1984 to 1988. Her brother, Alexander Remus Ciupe , competed twice in the Olympic Games (1992 and 1996). Her husband Teo Pop became Romanian champion in 1988.

The trained dental technician also worked as a fashion model for the Hungarian magazine Star and the Hungarian edition of Elle magazine . She has been married to Teodor-Adrian Pop since 1998. The couple has a daughter.
