Jovo Stanojević ( Serbian - Cyrillic Јово Станојевић ; born September 27, 1977 in Belgrade , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Serbian basketball player . The 2.07 m tall Stanojević acted as the center and won championships in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , Poland and Germany , where he was named Most Valuable Player of the Basketball Bundesliga in 2002/03 and 2005/06 and also with his German club Alba Berlin won national cup competition in 2006. After further stints in Ukraine , among others , Stanojević played in Turkey for another four years until he retired in 2013 .

Career

With Red Star Belgrade, Stanojević won the 1998 Yugoslav championship in the territory of Serbia and Montenegro and reached the final in the Korać Cup . In addition, he became European champion with the junior national team that year. After a year in Israel in the 2000/01 season and winning the 2001 Universiade for the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , he returned to Belgrade to join local rivals Partizan. There he was again champion in 2002 as well as cup winners that year and personally named Most Valuable Player of the season.

Alba Berlin was able to remove Stanojević from his contract in 2002 as the successor to his compatriot Dejan Koturović . In his first season in the German basketball league , he was able to repeat the successes of the previous season with Partizan: champions , cup winners and MVP. Three years later he was again cup winner with Alba and BBL-MVP. In the playoffs of the same 2005/06 season, Stanojevic tore a cruciate ligament that forced him to take a several-month break from injury. In January 2007 he took part in a Bundesliga basketball game for the first time. Dissatisfied with his situation after the injury break, he requested the termination of the existing contract in early April 2007.

After a short-term engagement with another club in Belgrade, he played the 2007/08 season in Poland , where he was also champion and cup winner with Trefl Sopot. His contract with Beşiktaş Cola Turka was terminated at short notice at the start of the 2008/09 season due to apparent financial disputes, so that he played the main part of the season in the Ukraine at BC Kiev, who was coached by his Serbian compatriot Saša Obradović and the 2009 Ukrainian Cup final reached. In 2009 Stanojević was briefly active again in Novi Sad , where he had already played as a youth player before he moved to the Turkish basketball league TBL in Kepez in the province of Antalya . The club based there ended the 2010 season with the penultimate place and relegation. For the following season Stanojević moved to the Turkish west coast to Izmir to Pınar Karşıyaka. After two years, during which he was able to distinguish himself personally in the EuroChallenge 2011/12, he switched to the Turkish first division returnee TED Ankara Kolejliler for the 2012/13 season.

After the 2012/13 season, Stanojević ended his career as a professional basketball player.
