Justin Joseph Doellman (born February 3, 1985 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American - Kosovar basketball player . After studying in his hometown, Doellman became a professional player in Europe in 2007, where he first played for three years in France and won a league cup "Semaine des As" in 2008 and a French cup competition "Coupe de France" in 2010. He then played in the Spanish ACB league for various clubs and won the Eurocup 2013/14 with Valencia BC . After being named one of the top five players in this competition last season, after winning the title, he was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the finals of this competition. Also in the regular season of the ACB league in 2014 he was awarded as an MVP. At the end of the season, Doellman moved to the Spanish champions FC Barcelona.

Career

Doellman graduated from high school across the Ohio border in Boone County, Kentucky, in the suburb of his hometown. To study he went to the Xavier University of Cincinnati , where he played for four years from 2003 for the university team Musketeers at that time in the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With the Musketeers, Doellman won the championship tournament of the A-10 in 2004 and 2006. At the national NCAA finals tournament in 2004, they moved into the "regional final" in the quarterfinals Elite Eight , which was lost to the top-placed Blue Devils of Duke University after half-time lead by three points. Two years later they lost in the first round against the Bulldogs of Gonzaga University , while in 2007 they lost in the second round after extra time to the top-seeded regional rival and eventual finalist Buckeyes of Ohio State University .

Although Doellman was named one of the top five players in the A-10 in 2007 , he was not considered in the 2007 NBA draft by the clubs of the highest-endowed professional league National Basketball Association . After he had not been able to recommend himself for a contract in the NBA via the NBA Summer League with the Charlotte Bobcats , he started a career as a professional in Europe. In the 2007/08 season Doellman played for the team from Cholet in France, with whom he was able to win the 2008 league cup "Semaine des As". As a finalist of the cup competition “Coupe de France” and eighth-placed team in the regular season in the top division LNB Pro A , they were eliminated in the play-offs for the championship in the first round against the main round first Le Mans Sarthe Basket . The following season Doellman played for the promoted Basket Comté Doubs from Besançon , who missed relegation at the end of the season for a win on the penultimate place in the table. With his following club from Orléans Doellman lost the final game in the League Cup 2010 with one point difference against record champions ASVEL , but in the cup competition you could win the first national title for the club. In the play-offs, however, the former runner-up and sixth in the main round was eliminated in the first round. As last year's runner-up, the team also took part in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2009/10 , in which they could only win two out of ten games in the preliminary round at the club's premiere in this competition.

For the 2010/11 season Doellman moved to the Spanish ACB league , where he played for the club CB Lucentum from Alicante . With the team he achieved relegation in third from last place in the table. For the following season, Doellman moved to fourth-bottom Assignia Bàsquet from Manresa , who improved to twelfth place in the table with Doellman at the end of the season. As "Player of the Month January" ( Spanish MVP del mes de enero ) Doellman recommended himself for the club from Valencia , with whom he again competed in European club competitions in the 2012/13 season. After Valencia had lost the national cup final in the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto 2013 against FC Barcelona, they reached the semi-finals in the 2012/13 Eurocup , which were lost in a round trip against the eventual Russian title winner Lok Kuban . In the championship, Doellman lost with Valencia as fourth in the main round in an unusual play-off series in the first round against CAI Saragossa . After an overly clear 80:42 success in the first game, they lost the second game 120:122 under dramatic circumstances after three overtimes and then gave up the third and decisive game of the series at home. Doellman, who in May 2013 was again player of the month in the ACB based on his effectiveness , was also voted among the top five players in the competition in the Eurocup. In the following Eurocup 2013/14 , Valencia, which had now also committed Doellman's former teammate to the Musketeers Romain Sato , only won nine of 16 games in the preliminary and intermediate rounds and only reached the knockout games from the round of 16 on basis better direct comparison . After progressing in the last sixteen and in the quarter-finals against the German representative Alba Berlin on the basis of a lead from the first leg, they won both games in the semifinals and in the finals and thus already the third title success for the club as the record winner of this competition. Doellman has been named MVP of the Eurocup finals. Valencia had done much better in the main round of the ACB League than in the preliminary and intermediate rounds of the Eurocup and went into the play-offs in second place with only four defeats in 34 games. Doellman was a total of four times Player of the Week, only surpassed by Tibor Pleiß with five awards, and twice Player of the Month and was also named MVP of the regular season based on his effectiveness. In the semi-final series of the play-offs they had home rights against the former runner-up FC Barcelona, but after there were only away wins in this series, Valencia was eliminated from the national title with the last successful throw by Marcelinho Huertas in the final seconds of the fifth and decisive game . Then Doellman was signed by the new title winner FC Barcelona, who had dethroned the record champions and defending champions Real Madrid , for the 2014/15 season, where Doellman again took part in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2014/15 .
