Georgios Kolokithas ( Greek Γεώργιος Κολοκυθάς ; born November 2, 1945 in Greece ; † March 2, 2013 in Athens ) was a Greek basketball player .
Career
Kolokithas began his career at the Athens club Sporting Athens, where he was under contract until 1966. He then moved to Panathinaikos Athens , where he was active until his retirement in 1972. With Panathinaikos he won four championships and was the most successful basket hunter of the Greek championship in 1964, 1966 and 1967 , while he came to a total of 3529 points in his career.
In the European Cup he reached with Panathinaikos in 1969 the semi-finals in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the semifinals in 1972 in the European Cup of Champions .
National team
Kolokithas made his debut with the Greek national team in a friendly against Romania on November 20, 1962. In the following nine years, Kolokithas was an integral part of the Greek selection and took part in a total of three European championships. His last game he gave after 90 internationals and 1807 points (20.1 on average) on May 4, 1971 in a game against Scotland . In the 111-72 win, Kolokithas scored 36 points.
At the European Championships in 1967 (206 points; 22.9 on average) and 1969 (159 points; 22.7 on average) Kolokithas finished the tournaments as the most successful basket hunter.
