Emiliano Rodríguez (born June 10, 1937 in San Feliz de Torío , Province of León ), usually just called Emiliano , is a former Spanish basketball player . The 1.85 meter tall shooting guard is considered to be the first Spanish basketball star alongside Francesc Buscató . Emiliano won a total of twelve Spanish championship titles , nine trophies and four European championship cups with Real Madrid . In 1963 and 1964 he was also named the best player of the European Cup final. With the Spanish national team he completed 175 games, although he was named best player in the European Championship twice (1963 and 1969), he could not celebrate a title. At the Olympic Games in 1960 he was part of the Spanish squad, but reached only 14th place with his team. In 1973, just before Spain took second place in the European Championship , Emiliano resigned. He is currently Honorary President of Real Madrid's Basketball Section and the Association of Former Players. In 2007 he was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame . He received the ' FIBA Order of Merit ' in March 1997.

Emiliano Rodríguez was honored in May 2008 as one of the fifty great personalities of basketball in Europe . The award was given by the Euroleague Basketball in an official ceremony in the Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid , in Madrid ( Spain ).
