Wayne Donald Brabender Cole (* 6. October 1945 in Montevideo (Minnesota) ) is a former Spanish - American basketball player and coach. The 1.93-meter-tall shooting guard spent most of his career at Real Madrid and was considered one of the best players in Europe from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. He was particularly famous for his distance throws.

Brabender began his career at the University of Minnesota Morris , for whose basketball team, the Cougars , he played for two seasons in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference of the NCAA Division II. Over forty years after graduating, he still holds numerous university records averaging 23.6 points in his career, 24.3 points in a season, 303 total rebounds and 23 rebounds in one game. In the summer of 1967, the 21-year-old was discovered by the then Real Madrid coach Pedro Ferrándiz and immediately committed. With the Spaniards he rose to one of the most important players in European basketball. He has won the European Cup four times, as well as 13 Spanish championship titles and seven national cups . In 1983 he left Real Madrid and ended his career with local rivals Caja Madrid Baloncesto , where he spent two seasons. Due to his successful career, he is listed by the Euroleague as one of the 50 most important personalities in European basketball .
National team
Brabender, who is married to a Spaniard, took on Spanish citizenship in 1968. He played 190 games with the Iberian national team and won the silver medal at the 1973 European Championship , which he finished as MVP of the tournament.
Trainer
Brabender took over the post of head coach at Real Madrid for the first time in the 1990/91 season. He spent another year on Tenerife at CB Canarias. Between 1994 and 1997 he was in charge of Forum Valladolid . His last position as a coach was at the small Madrid pre-school club CB Illescas , where he still functions as sports director to this day.
