Giuseppe Liberali (composer)

Giuseppe Liberali (* before 1806 in Fermo ; † after 1857) was an Italian conductor and composer who worked in the first half of the 19th century.

Life

Giuseppe Liberali studied with Fedele Fenaroli in Naples . In 1806 he worked as Kapellmeister of the Church of San Tommaso in Ortona , where he got a tenure for life in 1815. In 1824, however, a successor was appointed. Liberali has since worked as Kapellmeister in Chieti . He mainly composed oratorios. On October 29, 1835, on the occasion of the death of Vincenzo Bellini in the church of S. Domenico in Chieti , he performed the funeral mass he had composed for the occasion. He also conducted operas at the Real Teatro S. Ferdinando in Chieti. There is evidence of performances by Bellini's Beatrice di Tenda (1843) and Saverio Mercadante's Il bravo (1846).

His son Ladislao Liberali took over the position of Kapellmeister in Ortona from 1848 to 1850, as did his nephew or grandson Giuseppe Liberali from 1855.

The opera composer Giuseppe Persiani (1827–1899) was one of his students.

Piano works

In the library catalog of the SBN, several piano works published in Milan are listed under the name Giuseppe Liberali. Their authorship is uncertain, however, as there were several composers of this name at the same time. Possibly they come from Iosif Liveralis , who was also known under the Italian form of the name Giuseppe Liberali.
