Monica Bacelli (* 1963 in Chieti ) is an Italian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Bacelli received her musical training at the Conservatory in Pescara . After winning the Den Belli Competition, she made her debut in Mozart roles at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto. She sings at important opera houses such as La Scala in Milan , the Zurich Opera House , the Vienna State Opera , the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. Her roles include Rosina in Barbiere di Siviglia in Amsterdam and Rome, Despina and Dorabella in Così fan tutte , Cherubino and Idamante , and Angelina in La Cenerentola . At the Salzburg Festival she was heard as Ovid in the world premiere of Berio's Cronaca del luogo . She sang Isabella in L'italiana in Algeri at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam and Ottavia in L'incoronazione di Poppea under Ivor Bolton at the Maggio Musicale 2000 in Florence. At the Bavarian State Opera she appeared as Ottavia, Cherubino and Destino, Diana and Furie in La Calisto . In 2016 she was seen in L'incoronazione di Poppea at La Scala in Milan .
