Stephen of Nicaea († around 304 ? In Reggio Calabria ) was an early bishop of Reggio Calabria .

Legend has it that Stephen came from Nicaea and accompanied Paul on his journey to Italy, where the apostle made him the first bishop of the city in Rhegium, today's Reggio. Stephanus then suffered martyrdom under Emperor Nero together with Suera, Agnes, Felicitas and Perpetua. This tradition is, however, considered unreliable; a martyrdom under Emperor Diocletian is more likely ; the early dating would then have been made retrospectively in order to give the diocese of Reggio the most venerable possible age and a direct apostolic foundation. Stephen is the city saint of Reggio and the city's cathedral is named after him. The saint's feast day is July 5th .
