history

The diocese was founded on November 17, 1728 as the Diocese of Fabriano and was united with the Diocese of Matelica on July 8, 1785 .

Pope Francis united the Diocese of Fabriano-Matelica on June 27, 2020 in persona episcopi with the Archdiocese of Camerino-San Severino Marche . The Archbishop of Camerino-San Severino Marche, Francesco Massara , previously Apostolic Administrator , was also appointed Bishop of Fabriano-Matelica.
