history
The diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto-Ripatransone-Montalto was established on August 1, 1571 by Pope Pius V with the Apostolic Constitution Illius fulciti from ceding territories from the diocese of Fermo and the Abbey of Farfa as the diocese of Ripatransone and placed directly under the Holy See .
The diocese of Ripatransone was renamed on April 7, 1983 in the Diocese of Ripatransone-San Benedetto del Tronto . On September 30, 1986, the diocese of Ripatransone-San Benedetto del Tronto was annexed to the diocese of Montalto by the Congregation for the Bishops with the decree Instantibus votis . The diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto-Ripatransone-Montalto is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Fermo as a suffragan .
