history
In the 1st century the diocese of Fano was established and subordinated to the archdiocese of Ravenna as a suffragan . In 1568 the diocese of Fano was placed directly under the Holy See .
On 30 September 1986 the diocese of Fano were by the Congregation for Bishops with the decree Instantibus votis the bishoprics Cagli and Pergola and Fossombrone affiliated. The diocese of Fano-Fossombrone-Cagli-Pergola was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Pesaro as a suffragan on March 2, 2000 .
