Edoardo Cardinal Menichelli (born October 14, 1939 in San Severino Marche , Macerata Province , Italy ) is Archbishop Emeritus of Ancona-Osimo .

Life

Edoardo Menichelli graduated from the Pontifical Lateran University with a degree in pastoral theology and was ordained a priest on July 3, 1965 . Until 1968 he worked as a pastor in his hometown. From 1968 to 1991 he was an official at the Apostolic Signature . From 1992 Menichelli worked in the Congregation for the Oriental Churches , where he was, among other things, special envoy of Cardinal Prefect Achille Silvestrini .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Chieti-Vasto on June 10, 1994 . The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches, Achille Cardinal Silvestrini, donated him episcopal ordination on July 9th of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Antonio Valentini , Senior Archbishop of Chieti-Vasto, and Piergiorgio Silvano Nesti CP , Archbishop of Camerino-San Severino Marche .

On January 8, 2004 he was appointed Archbishop of Ancona-Osimo and on March 7 of the same year he was introduced to the office.

In the solemn consistory on February 14, 2015, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church Sacri Cuori di Gesù e Maria a Tor Fiorenza in the college of cardinals . On April 13, 2015 he appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches and the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care in Health Care .

On July 14, 2017, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation. On September 30, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Apostolic Signature .
