San Severino Marche is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 12,256 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Macerata in Marche . The community is located on the Potenza about 23 kilometers west of Macerata and about 50 kilometers southwest of Ancona . San Severino Marche belongs to the Comunità Montana Alte Valli del Potenza e Esino .
history
Settlement of the area in early times seems to be evidenced by some necropolises in the area. The origin of the earlier name Septempeda cannot be proven in early sources. After the reign of Francesco Sforza , the place became part of the Papal States .
