Penna San Giovanni is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 997 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Macerata in Marche . The municipality is located about 26.5 kilometers south-southwest of Macerata on a ridge between the Torrenti Salino and Tennacola, left tributaries of the Tenna . It belongs to the Comunità montana Monti Azzurri and borders directly on the province of Fermo . The Tenna forms the eastern border of the municipality and province.

Look into the theater

The thermal and climatic health resort has a municipal theater founded around 1780, which was restored around 1985 after years of decline. The place is probably home to Giovanni della Penna (around 1200 - around 1270), one of the early followers of Francis of Assisi . Archaeological finds indicate a Roman settlement.
