Montecosaro is an Italian municipality with 7353 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Macerata in Marche . The municipality is located about 14.5 kilometers east of Macerata and about 7 kilometers west of the Adriatic coast . Montecosaro borders directly on the province of Fermo . The Chienti limits the community to the south .
The municipality is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy).

The basilica of Montecosaro was built in 1125.

Strada Statale 77 della Val di Chienti (also: Raccordo Autostradale Tolentino - Civitanova Marche ) runs through the municipality . The former Strada Statale 485 Corridonia Maceratese also runs through the municipality, but has now been downgraded to a provincial road and runs largely parallel to Strada Statale 77. The Montecosaro train station is on the railway line from Civitanova Marche to Fabriano .
