Montefano is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 3401 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Macerata in Marche . The municipality is located about 13 kilometers north of Macerata and borders directly on the province of Ancona . The northern municipal boundary forms the Fiumicello , the southern the Monocchia .

history

The ancient settlement on the spot Montefanos was created by the destruction of the Piceno city Veragra and the expulsion of its inhabitants. In the 6th century AD, Montefano was destroyed again, this time by the Goths.

The former Strada Statale 361 Septempedana (now a provincial road) leads through the municipality from Camerano-Aspio to Nocera Umbra .
