Serrapetrona is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 916 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Macerata in the Marche .
geography
The municipality is located about 25 kilometers southwest of Macerata and belongs to the Comunità montana dei Monti Azzurri . The Chienti River forms the southern edge of the municipality .
The districts include Borgiano, Caccamo sul Lago, Castel San Venanzo and Villa d'Aria.
The neighboring municipalities are Belforte del Chienti , Caldarola , Camerino , Castelraimondo , San Severino Marche and Tolentino .
Attractions
- Santa Maria di Piazza , the church consecrated to Santa Maria Assunta in the center of the village on the Piazza Santa Maria. The church was built from 1770 to 1775 and replaced the older church of Santa Maria de Serra, which stood a few meters further south near the well and was destroyed by a landslide in 1770.
- San Francesco , just above the Piazza Santa Maria from the early 14th century.
- San Paolo , church in the hamlet of Borgiano. First documented in 1299.
- San Giacomo , church in the Caccamo district, 15th century.
- Lago di Caccamo , reservoir in the southern municipality after the districts of Borgiano and Caccamo.

The former Strada Statale 502 di Cingoli (now a provincial road) leads through the municipality from Jesi to San Ginesio . Strada Statale 77 della Val di Chienti also runs along the Chienti .
DOC wine
In Serrapetrona (and in parts of the neighboring municipalities of Belforte del Chienti and San Severino Marche ) a red wine is produced that has had a "controlled designation of origin " (Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC ) since 2004 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014. At least 85% of the wine must be made from Vernaccia Nera grapes . A maximum of 15% other red, non-aromatic grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Marche region may be added - individually or together.
