Apiro is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 2126 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Macerata in Marche . The municipality is located about 28 kilometers northwest of Macerata . Apiro is part of the Comunità montana del San Vicino and borders directly on the province of Ancona , in the southeast of the municipality lies part of Lake Cingoli .

history

The municipality was populated by Etruscans or the local tribes were in contact with the Etruscans. The Etruscan warrior statuette by Apiro found here, which is now in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art , dates from around 460 BC.
