San Ginesio is an Italian commune in the province of Macerata in the Marche region , about 60 kilometers southwest of Ancona and about 25 kilometers southwest of Macerata . The community has 3226 inhabitants on an area of 77.7 km².
San Ginesio is a member of the I borghi più belli d'Italia association (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy).
San Ginesio borders the following municipalities: Camporotondo di Fiastrone , Cessapalombo , Colmurano , Fiastra , Gualdo , Loro Piceno , Ripe San Ginesio , Sant'Angelo in Pontano , Sarnano and Tolentino .
City patron San Ginesios is the martyr Eleutherius .
DOC wine
In the municipality of San Ginesio (as well as the neighboring municipalities of Caldarola , Camporotondo di Fiastrone, Cessapalombo, Ripe San Ginesio, Gualdo, Colmurano, Sant'Angelo in Pontano and Loro Piceno) a red wine and a sparkling wine (Spumante) are produced, which have been a " Controlled Designation of Origin "(Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC ), which was last updated on March 7, 2014.
- The red wine ( San Ginesio Rosso ) must contain at least 50% Sangiovese grapes and at least 35% Vernaccia Nera , Cabernet Sauvignon , Cabernet Franc , Merlot and / or Ciliegiolo - individually or together. A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Marche region may be added.
- The sparkling wine ( San Ginesio Spumante ) must consist of at least 85% Vernaccia Nera grapes. A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Marche region may be added.
