Rosso Piceno

Rosso Piceno DOC or simply Piceno DOC are Italian red wines from the Marche region . They have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1968 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Rosso Piceno is offered in two types of wine:

  • Rosso Piceno : The wine must contain at least the following grape varieties : at least 35–85% Montepulciano and 15–50% Sangiovese . A maximum of 15% other red, non-aromatic grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Marche region may be added.
  • Rosso Piceno Sangiovese : must contain at least 85% Sangiovese . A maximum of 15% other red, non-aromatic grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Marche region may be added.

Cultivation

The cultivation and vinification of the wines are only permitted in the communities of Ascoli Piceno , Venarotta , Rotella , Montelparo , Santa Vittoria in Matenano , Monte San Martino , Penna San Giovanni , Gualdo and Sanginesio as well as other described areas in the provinces of Ancona , Macerata and Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region .

In 2017, 70,105 hl of DOC wine were produced.

  • Taste: harmonious, pleasantly dry
  • Alcohol content: at least 11.5  % by volume , for "Superiore" 12.0% by volume

  • Dry extract: at least 18.0 g / l, for "Superiore" 21 g / l

Rosso Piceno Sangiovese
