Falerio DOC (formerly also: Falerio dei Colli Ascolani ) are Italian white wines from the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo in the Marche region . They have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - | DOC) since 1975 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Falerio is offered in two types of wine:

  • Falerio - The wine must contain at least the following grape varieties : 20–50% Trebbiano Toscano , 10–30% Passerina and 10–30% Pecorino . A maximum of 20% other white, non-aromatic grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Marche region may be added.
  • Falerio Pecorino : must contain at least 85% Pecorino . A maximum of 15% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Marche region may be added.

Cultivation

The cultivation and vinification of the wines are only permitted in the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo on the hills along the Tenna River . The cultivation may only take place up to a height of 700  m slm .

In 2017, 23,282 hl of DOC wine were produced.

Falerio

  • Color: more or less light straw yellow
  • Odor: slightly aromatic
  • Taste: dry, fruity, balanced, slightly sour
  • Alcohol content: at least 11.5  % by volume
  • Acidity : at least 4.5 g / l
  • Dry extract: at least 16.0 g / l

Falerio Pecorino

  • Color: straw yellow with greenish reflections
  • Smell: characteristic, pleasant
  • Taste: typical, characteristically dry, slightly sour
  • Alcohol content: at least 12.0  % by volume
  • Acidity : at least 4.5 g / l
  • Dry extract: at least 16.0 g / l
