Alessio Galletti

Alessio Galletti (born March 26, 1968 in Pisa , † June 15, 2005 near Oviedo , Spain ) was an Italian cyclist .

Galletti turned pro in 1994 . He started his career with Team Lampre , switched to Panaria two years later and then drove for Ros Mary in 1997 and for Amore e Vita in 1998 . In the latter, he won a stage in a race for the first time : the third stage of the Tour de l'Ain . The following year he moved to the Saeco team, where he stayed for five years and won two stages, namely in 2001 at the Tour Down Under and in 2003 at the GP Fred Mengoni . In 2004 he switched to Domina Vacanze .

Meanwhile, doping allegations were raised against him during a police raid at the 2004 Giro d'Italia . In 2005 he drove for the Naturino-Sapore di Mare team .

Galletti died on June 15, 2005 during the northern Spanish race Subida al Naranco when he got off his bike on an ascent 15 km from the finish and collapsed shortly afterwards.
