Potenza Picena , originally Monte Santo , is an Italian municipality with 15,993 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Macerata in Marche . The municipality is located about 30 kilometers southeast of Ancona and about 15 kilometers northeast of Macerata .

history

The Franciscan Gerhard von Lunel (born around 1275) suffered a collapse near Monte Santo in 1298. With his canonization by Pope Benedict XIV , he became the patron saint of epileptics. It was later Montesanto in Potenza Picena renamed.

The main town of the municipality is located a few kilometers from the Adriatic Sea . The district of Porto Potenza Picena right on the water. The Strada Statale 571 runs north of the municipality. The Strada Statale 16 Adriatica also crosses the municipality as does the Autostrada A14 . In Porto Potenza Picena there is also a connection to the Adriatic Railway . The train station is called Potenza Picena-Montelupone.
