The Province of Nuoro ( Italian. Provincia di Nuoro , Sardinia. Provìntzia de Nùgoro ) is an Italian province of the Sardinia region . It has around 206,843 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in 74 municipalities on an area of 5,638 km². The capital of the province is the city of the same name, Nuoro, with around 37,000 inhabitants. When the Sardinian reorganization of local authorities came into force in 2016, the province of Ogliastra was incorporated into the province of Nuoro, with the exception of the municipality of Seui , which changed to the province of Sud Sardegna .
With around 37 inhabitants per km², the province of Nuoro is one of the most sparsely populated areas in Europe , but has scenic attractions that are interesting for tourists, such as the Gennargentu massif and the Gulf of Orosei , which have been declared a national park.

In the mountains of Nuoro there are said to be an extraordinary number of centenarians whose age (in contrast to other "legendary" places of longevity such as Abkhazia or Peru ) is documented. The oldest recorded resident was Antonio Todde (January 22, 1889 to January 3, 2002), who lived in the small village of Tiana and was recognized as the oldest man in the world from 2000 to 2002 .
