The province of Ogliastra ( Italian Provincia dell'Ogliastra ) was an Italian province in the region of Sardinia . The seat of the provincial administration is Tortolì ; the short-term capital was Lanusei .
The province had 57,699 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2013) in 23 municipalities on an area of 1,854 km², making it the most sparsely populated province in Italy.
The province was established by law in 2001. On May 8, 2005, the province was de facto established and the provincial council and provincial head elected. In the course of the reorganization of the Sardinian local authorities in 2016, Ogliastra was reorganized into the province of Nuoro .
