The province of Sud Sardegna (Italian Provincia del Sud Sardegna ) is an Italian province in Sardinia founded on February 24, 2016 . It emerged from 54 municipalities in the old province of Cagliari , which do not form the metropolitan city of Cagliari , the former provinces Carbonia-Iglesias (23 municipalities) and Medio Campidano (28 municipalities) and the municipalities of Genoni from the province of Oristano and Seui from the province of Ogliastra . 347,005 inhabitants live in an area of 6,530 km² (as of December 31, 2019).
The previous provisional capital, Carbonia , has been the province's official capital since April 2017.
